Today I was surprised and amazed to see a giant white moth just outside the city of Medellin. Researching later, it was a White Witch (Thysania agrippina). The moth is around eleven inches from wing to wing (28 cm.), and is the largest in the world. But very little is known about its life cycle or diet. The moth is found from Texas to south Brazil, it is considered widespread but uncommon. Most photos I've found were from low altitudes, but this one was seen perhaps at 1800 meters. A link to a photo.
