Cooper's Hawk, Fort Lauderdale Beach Home » Blogs » tomfriedel's blog
About two weeks ago I was riding my bike on A1A just before dark when I turned to corner at the Swimming Hall of Fame and almost ran over a hawk eating a dove. The hawk grabbed the dove and flew to the corner of the field there. I went to the other corner of the field to watch, when two pedestrians walked a few feet from the hawk. The hawk just continued to eat. And the pedestrians glanced and just walked on, like it was something they see everyday.

He died

The Cooper's Hawk, or a hawk, was seem dead on the road (State Road A1A). Hawks have much less peripheral vision than humans, and when chasing prey can only focus on the prey, and are often hit by cars. The only consolation is that the population of Cooper's Hawks has been steadily increasing over the last fifty yeats, perhaps because they can adapt to urban settings.
