Similar to Water Thick-knee and the Eurasian Stone Curlew this is a crepuscular/nocturnal wader which has a mainly West African distribution. In Kenya it is only found at Lake Turkana and Lake Baringo.
This bird was photographed from a small boat -we were able to drift in very close but I had to handhold the 500mm lens + 1.4TC -for once being solidly built (=big fat man) was helpful!
A wee island on Lake Baringo, Kenya.
