Over the long weekend I joined some friends in visiting the Griffith area of central NSW. It was awesome to get back to the region, to see all the good birds again and release some of the stress of the last two weeks of uni.
Surprisingly, I managed 3 lifers for the three-day trip: White-browed Treecreeper, Brolga and Australian Owlet-Nightjar (finally!). They were all great birds. But more than anything else, I just enjoyed being back in the area, birding in the callitris woodlands and the open fields and swamps.
Even though this Blue Bonnet shot is not nearly as good as Julian's shot recently, it was still the first time I had the opportunity to get close to some. The Griffith area has some stunning parrots, and these little jewels hold their own against the equally stunning Mulga Parrots, Red-rumped Parrots, Major Mitchell's Cockatoos, Mallee Ringnecks, Eastern Rosellas and Yellow Rosellas that are also found in the area. The beauty of the Blue Bonnet is very subtle
