One of the NZ honeyeaters (family Meliphagidae), and yet another NZ species under threat from introduced predators and habitat loss. This species is also surviving on islands, but has been reintroduced to a few predator-free sites on the mainland.
A gorgeous, quite active bird - we only saw a couple of these on Tiri, but no females.

EDITOR: IOU classifies in a different family. The nominate subspecies is extinct.
