This is by far the best image of Great-winged Petrels (race gouldii) that I took from the trip. Very 'clean'. Nice viewed LARGE.
These petrels do not appear a lot larger than say, a Flesh-footed Shearwater, but are a bit bulkier. You can often distinguish them by their white face, especially when they are flying into towards the boat. Similar to Providence Petrels in some regards, but they tend to have a less towering flight pattern. Note the big beak, which, although short, is very bulky.
