The light was harsh on the Tibetan Plateau. The thin air did little to stop the sun quickly burning skin and washing out photographs by 8:30AM or so. The best thing that could happen was to have a clear sky sunrise, briefly enjoy that good light light and then have the clouds roll in to provide some cover. This photo was taken midmorning near Wenquan under a high overcast, allowing a measure of detail to be retained.
This species is a taxonomic train wreck, even by the haphazard standards of the area. (Adam's Snowfinch) is also known as Black-winged Snowfinch and Tibetan Snowfinch, the latter name being shared on occasion with Henri's Snowfinch, which may or may not be a good split from White-winged Snowfinch (Montifringilla nivalis).
