Probably the signature bird of our tour of the Tibetan Plateau. While the plumage is not all kinds of fancy, they were a frequently seen friendly presence, hopping about on their big feet fair weather or foul and usually allowing close approach. This one was photographed in the crumbling remains of an abandoned city near Zhiduo in southeastern Qinghai Province.
